Artist Fred Bullen

When Fred Bullen retired, he and his wife Patrice traded Sydney for the relaxed lifestyle of the Mid North Coast of NSW. Instead of picking up golf clubs, Fred picked up a paintbrush, reigniting his passion for art after a 40-year hiatus.
Joining the local art society, he was guided by talented and generous artists who shared their knowledge and skills. He also participated in regional workshops led by visiting tutors, exploring diverse artistic media and techniques.
Fred began with traditional landscape painting on canvas before shifting to large-format boards for his abstract works, often featuring heavily textured surfaces. Inspired by the bush and beaches of the Mid North Coast, his art takes many forms, including ‘abstract realism,’ ‘2½ D,’ and more traditional styles.
His work has received awards and is exhibited in galleries across Forster, Taree, and Port Macquarie, as well as in local cafés. He regularly showcases his pieces at regional agricultural shows and art society exhibitions.
While Fred enjoys the challenge of experimenting with different subjects and techniques, his greatest satisfaction comes from knowing his artwork has sparked a cherished memory or deep emotion in the viewer.
